Yotsuba Choco — a 19-year-old independent artist from China. Her primary musical styles include J-Pop, rock, and jazz, though her work spans a wide range of genres. She single-handedly handles lyrics, composition, arrangement, performance, vocals, mixing, and mastering, while also creating her own artwork and directing its visual presentation. As a literary artist, she has independently written the novel Natural Era Faction, separate from her music career. Guided by Taoist philosophy and way of life, she is a multi-talented artist.
On July 16, 2025, she officially released the EP Radiance Sea, which includes the lead track of her Chronicle Album Lonely Island Artist (2025), marking the true beginning of her music career centered around the Chronicle Album project.
"Negative emotions are just fuel for my songs. Life is the best!" Her work explores deep themes of society and existence, creating unforgettable music that cuts across multiple styles and emotions.
Lonely Island Artist (2025), Soul-Prime (2026), and Abyss of Sleeping Bronze Illness (2027) are her three representative Chronicle Albums. Each unfolds different narratives centered around [Ego], [Id], and [Superego]. Drawing strength from Chinese Taoist philosophy, these works aim to break down the shackles, struggles, conflicts, psychological issues, confusion, chaos, and various limitations that people face in the 21st century. They guide listeners toward a "non-central" nature, helping them understand their own meaning in this world. From the opening track Crabapple to Hashin, the concepts are consistently infused with a strong emotional impact known as The Yotsuba Style — a sign that her image is being carved into "a black vinyl record shaped like the Himalayas."
Moving between tradition and modernity, reality and fantasy, with the Asia-Pacific cultural sphere as her stage, she embraces both the darkness and the love of humanity. With her highly distinctive voice and musical style, she is gradually permeating and influencing the Reiwa era music scene.
Turning with the tide, always drifting.
Yotsuba Choco was born on October 19, 2008, in a remote town in Hunan Province, China.
Around 2021, she began creating Minecraft content on the internet under the name "Fish_Lucky". However, viewership remained dismal.
On September 30, 2022, she founded an online studio called "Bai Zi TeAm Studio", which attracted over a dozen creators. But the collaboration did not last long. In early 2023, Bai Zi TeAm officially disbanded. Weary of stagnation and a sense of achieving nothing, she began to explore the path of independent creation.
In October 2023, she was diagnosed with severe depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder. She suspended her schooling and studied from home, but her mental state continued to deteriorate, developing into bipolar disorder with mild paranoid personality traits. This cast a long shadow over her subsequent creative endeavors.
On July 27, 2024, she engaged with music production for the first time, releasing an instrumental piece titled Floating Life under the name Yotsuba Choco.
On July 16, 2025, she released her debut J-POP EP Radiance Sea, single-handedly handling lyrics, composition, arrangement, performance, vocals, mixing, and mastering. This day marked the official launch of Yotsuba Choco's career as an artist, establishing her signature approach of releasing works as annual Chronicle Albums.
On February 1, 2026, her first conceptual Chronicle Album Lonely Island Artist (2025) was released worldwide, collecting 30 high-quality tracks created throughout 2025. She personally drew the album artwork. By weaving together Chinese Taoist philosophy and Heideggerian existentialism, she presented this "Ego" album through a multi-layered narrative, offering young people a lifeline of meaning. Representative tracks include Diorama Families, Solitary Specter, and Low Shred.
On June 19, 2026, she began serializing her full-length postmodern classical novel Natural Era Faction. The story follows Yotsuba Choco herself as she time-slips into the Ming Dynasty and becomes a sect master, unfurling a magnificent martial arts epic set against the backdrop of the Jiajing era. Employing metafictional techniques and a zero-degree writing approach, she faithfully projects her own real-life personality and reactions into the work. Beneath the refined literary expression quietly breathes her sharp insight and daily habits. On this day, she stepped into the realm of the literary artist.
On June 27, 2026, she announced her return to Bilibili, launching playful videos centered on music, lifestyle, and gaming. Fans warmly celebrated her comeback, affectionately calling her "Ye Jie" (Sister Yotsuba).
On October 19, 2026 — the day Yotsuba Choco celebrates her 18th birthday — the Bingwu year's Chronicle Album Soul-Prime (2026) is scheduled for release. What is the meaning of life's existence? Primordial desires, biological instincts, and the trajectory of love. While urging listeners to find the courage to face their own ugliness and shame, it weaves a tapestry of irony toward instinct and an elegy for life itself.

Lonely Island Artist (2025) is a conceptual Chronicle Album independently released by Yotsuba Choco in 2025. With psychology, society, humanity, and emotion as its quiet axes, the work weaves together existentialism, absurdism, and her own philosophy of "optimistic decadence," gently yet sincerely questioning the abyss of existence and the folds of the human heart. At its center lies Freud's "Ego" — and the album vividly portrays the many faces of the Ego.
Taoist philosophy quietly dissolves into the music, encouraging listeners to laugh through pain, sing joy even in wounds, and freely live as "a self without a center" and "a self without answers" — even beneath the weight of life's pressures.
Every choice is a new form of freedom. Even in the midst of death and oppression, we can still dance. Through the philosophy of Dasein and the Taoist freedom of following one's nature, the album casts the flowing beauty of life gently into the world. "The form that drifts in the high tide — it is the lion's mane jellyfish." The festival and frenzy of the lonely island drift endlessly upon the sea, quietly continuing from all our "non-central" places toward eternity.

Natural Era Faction is a traditional Chinese chapter-novel and a work of postmodern classical literature by Yotsuba Choco. Rooted in the wuxia tradition and set against the rich historical backdrop of the Ming Dynasty's Jiajing era, the novel interweaves the natural philosophy of Taoism with the Confucian discourse on sovereign and subject. From this fusion emerges a narrative fabric where romanticism and realism coexist — a literary tapestry completed in the early decades of the 21st century. Through its artistic lens, it resurrects a Ming China steeped in Taoist thought, while simultaneously holding up a mirror to the realities of modern society, giving form to the pluralistic possibilities latent in the mid-to-late Ming social ecology.
Story Outline:
The novel follows four central figures — Yotsuba Choco, Kokoro Swallow, Qishe Na, and Linghu Chamei — around whom a centralized sectarian system is built in the southern region of Xiang, with five Qin Kings at its apex: the Scale King, the Pipe King, the String King, the Rhythm King, and the Bell King. Their reach extends from the imperial court to the common folk, setting in motion a journey across the jianghu where the secular and the Taoist intertwine. The complete work is divided into two volumes: the Ming Scroll (the first thirty-two chapters) and the Modern Scroll, totaling approximately 720,000 characters. The Ming Scroll tells the story of Yotsuba Choco, a modern musician suddenly transported to the Ming Dynasty, who founds the foremost of the Southern Foothill Mysterious Sects — the Natural Era Faction — on Peach Blossom Ridge. Guided by the creed "Heart Storm Elegance, Dao Expands the Realm," she leads her Qin Kings, each wielding their unique talents, through the treacherous gaps between court and country in the Jiajing era, gradually unmasking and ultimately toppling the heretical forces that have entrenched themselves deep within the dynasty for years.
Core Themes:
Shaped by the Ming Dynasty's historical environment of the Three Teachings Confluence, Natural Era Faction foregrounds the Taoist values of naturalness, spontaneity, and unity with the cosmos. At the same time, it symbolically deconstructs the orthodox Confucian framework of autocratic monarchy, laying bare the complexity of human nature and the visceral realities of social life. The novel probes the relationships between humanity and nature, myth, and the ancient feudal order, employing a pseudo-historiographical voice and deliberately disrupted chronology to layer multiple strata of civilization. By attending closely to material culture and the dissonances of emotional and ethical values, it embeds profound philosophical reflections on life within the vessel of traditional storytelling — a work that quietly speaks to the present even as it resurrects the past.
